Every day of this two week hike across the  magnificent Drakensberg Mountain range, offers hikers exquisite views of the peaks, columns, cliffs and valleys that form the Drakensberg escarpment. Starting in the North at The Sentinel and the renowned Amphitheatre you’ll trek through the Drakensberg Park for over 200km to the Southern Trail of the Drakensberg range at Bushman’s Nek.

 

Hiking on the Drakensberg escarpment, means that you’re often looking down at peaks and pinnacles and the general height of the trek is 3000+m. This trek is challenging, but it is also an unparalleled way of experiencing the Drakensberg and true wilderness, you’ll never forget the magnitude of the mountains, how constantly astounding the views are, how absolute the silence is or how close the stars seem at night.

THE DRAKENSBERG GRAND TRAVERSE - TWO WEEKS OF GUIDED HIKING ACROSS THE DRAKENSBERG

So that you can relax and enjoy your TREK, GoTrekking Africa guides::

· Arrange park fees and permits

· Navigate

· Set up camp

· Provide, tasty, nutritious meals, dietary requirements eg vegetarians are catered for.

· Are trained in rescue

· Carry First Aid

· Carry a satellite phone for emergencies when necessary

· Are knowledgeable about the wildlife, birds, geology & flora of the Drakensberg

Days are spent traversing rugged unspoilt wilderness terrain, hiking is off trail and the tranquillity of the Drakensberg is all consuming. Other hikers are seldom encountered and the Basotho herdsmen are a welcome sight as they tend their flocks in this challenging high altitude environment. The Drakensberg is the source of many of South Africa’s major rivers and the plentiful streams are our fresh, delicious water source.

 

All provisions are carried by the group and a strict policy of leave no trace, ensures that the next explorers can enjoy the pristine mountain environment.
