The Cape coast is picturesque & interesting, the dunes, ancient & new are home to a variety of animals, birds & specialized plants. The dunes themselves range from active to fossilized. GoTrekking Africa will guide you along the fascinating coast, pointing out the delights of these intricate ecosystems.
Beach walks are best enjoyed at low tide to maximize the time to explore tidal pools & enjoy the wide beaches, so times may vary, join us on a half or full day Coastal Walk.
SWARTVLEI BEACH & TIDAL POOLS - WILDERNESS/ SEDGEFIELD The wind sculpted dunes and rugged cliffs form a beautiful back drop for this unspoiled beach and the fascinating tidal pools. As the sea rolls back at low tide, all the treasures hidden in the tidal pools are revealed; baby fish, octopus, starfish, sea snails and crabs are just some of the brightly coloured wonders we can show you.
ROBBERG PENINSULA - PLETTENBERG BAY AREA Weathered by wind & water, this unique peninsula has it all from sandy beaches, massive coastal cliffs, fynbos & fascinating caves bearing evidence of thousands of years of climate change & habitation. You could see seals, sharks, whales, dolphins from the top of the cliffs & perhaps a clawless otter. A spectacular walk, half & full day options.
KRANSHOEK - PLETTENBERG BAY AREA A varied route that offers the shade of indigenous forest and plantations, magnificent gorge views of the Kranshoek River, swimming in a natural ocean pool or Crooks River, rugged pebble beaches & coastal crags. This is a beautiful half day walk with great diversity of habitat & scenery.
GROENVLEI TO GOUKAMMA - SEDGEFIELD/ BUFFALO BAY AREA A varied trail starting at the Goukamma Reserve near Buffalo bay, crossing an estuary, walk through an indigenous milkwood forest, take a scenic detour to the beach, & enjoy spectacular views from the top of the Groenvlei dune of the vleis or lakes lying to the North. An interesting & beautiful full day hike. |

GEORGE PEAK 1337m AND CRADOCK’S BERG 1579m Hike to the summit of these Outeniqua peaks that form the backdrop to the town of George. If you’re keen for uninterrupted 360 degree vistas of the Karoo, Coastal plains, ocean & forest then you’ll love this hike. An altitude gain of 1330m means you work for the views but the splendor is worth it. Full day.
PASS TO PASS A gentler half day alternative to the Peak hike, this scenic walk takes you through montane fynbos from the top of the Montagu Pass via Losberg 852m with it’s beautiful views of the Outeniqua Mountains, the Keur & Malgas River Gorges to the top of the Outeniqua Pass. |

ELEPHANT WALK Knysna is famous for the indigenous forest that lies preserved amongst the gorges & mountainous slopes of the Garden Route. Let GoTrekking Africa guide you through these ancient trees, the height & girth of theses ancient giants are a marvel to behold. Forest walking is a fantastic option for those hot summer days, when wandering along the clear streams, moss cover banks often brings encounters with the elusive forest creatures.
HISTORICAL MINE WALK Deep in the Knysna forests are the remnants of the one of the first Gold Rushes in south Africa, the Gold Rush only lasted 5 years, but the echo’s of the past remain to this day, enjoy a historical tour through the old mines and the forest surrounding them. Half Day. |
